Embrace Messy Hair

Don’t have time to get your hair perfect, yeah, we’ve all been there… Don’t want to look like you tried too hard but still fresh? Been there too! Two simple ways to embrace messy hair, up or down. Easy as pie!

First, if you’re seriously out of time or just can’t get your hair to work with you, don’t have time to wash or dry, do not panic. Remember when you were a kid and the topsy-tail was in? Yeah well I’m here to tell you to bring it back! Keep working that look down your pony to get this look and then pull it apart with your fingers to give it a little extra mess. Spray and go!

Next, rock the messy waves. Use a larger barrel curling iron (1 1/2 in or 2 in) and just slightly curl your hair in pieces- leaving the ends straight. Mess with fingers and spray. Use a texturing spray (I like Bumble and Bumble’s surf spray) to spritz as a final touch and then shake it out.

Easy as ever. Pretty messy hair in no time.

Fool proof, natural makeup… My go to, no makeup makeup trick!

I believe that some days are just a total waste of makeup. Kind of like those days when changing out of your sweats or pjs is just pointless. Sometimes I like to let my skin breathe. But like anyone else, I have those bad skin days when not wearing makeup isn’t always the best look for me. And then of course, some days I just like to fake it when I’m feeling too lazy to put on a full face or I’m simply in a rush. So of course, on those days, it does take some make up to make it look like you’re not wearing any. I mean, let’s be honest, the “natural” makeup look is trending right now but we all know it still requires more makeup than it lets on. Even those models in the Sports Illustrated swim mag prancing around on the beach, or rolling in the waves have makeup on. It’s not all just natural beauty or even airbrushing!

So with that, I’m going to share some of my favorite products I use to create this look.

First, we all know by now of the BB creams. Heavier than a tinted moisturizer but lighter than foundation, etc. So I’ve tried many different brands of BB creams but I found I really like Maybelline’s dream fresh BB cream. It is light and fresh, it blends very evenly and it even leaves my skin with a little hint of that “dewy” look which is perfect for when you’re trying to look natural but yet it covers enough to even out my skin tone.

Next, to widen the appearance of my eyes, I like mascara in either black or black brown. If your lashes are lighter go for a brown hue- it will look more natural. The trick is to apply it starting at the very base of your lashes. The thicker it is there, the more it will give the appearance of wearing liner so really focus on the base of your lashes and lightly coat the rest- just enough to fan them out and make your eyes look more awake. (I like Clinique’s high impact mascara in black.)

On the subject of eyes, like I’ve posted before, a friend let me in on this product and I’ve been in love ever since. Garnier’s skin renew under eye, dark circle roller is genius. Just roll a swipe under the eyes and dab with a finger to blend. Instantly my eyes look brighter and less puffy.

Next and lastly, you want a natural flush. Use a blush that mimics your natural cheek color. To find this, pinch your cheeks and then match your blush to whatever shade of pink or red or rose it turns. Apply the blush on the outer ends of your apples and angled slightly up your cheek bones. Take two fingers and place them right beside your nose on each side and then apply blush. This way, you get a very even flush and a more natural one since your cheeks don’t flush that close to your nose naturally.

And that it’s…easy, quick and fresh makeup fool proof enough to fake out anyone who might question you.

My Fav Winter Skin Remedies

In my world, having a bad skin day is worse than having a bad hair day. I have super sensitive and usually pretty dry skin so when winter kicks in, my skin throws fits and let me tell you, it sucks! So if you’re like me, or just want better skin, I’m letting you in on my favorite products that help me keep my skin fresh and glowing all winter long.

First, because I wash my face twice a day- morning and night- and NEVER EVER sleep with make up on, soap and warm water usually is enough to dry out my skin some days. I love Neutrogena products and recently they have come out with an ultra gentle cleanser that I love. It takes my make up off, foams and cleanses, and doesn’t dry my skin out or irritate it. I highly recommend this product.

However, when washing my face, I always use my Clarisonic Mia (the Mia2 to be exact). This is by far my absolute favorite beauty product I own. The Clarisonic moves with your skin’s elasticity and really get down deep in your pores. My skin always looks noticeably clean, buffed and refreshed after using my Mia. They’re pretty pricey but definitely worth it.

After cleansing, since I have dry sensitive skin, I am really particular about which lotions and creams I use. I don’t usually use anything with oil in it as it tends to make my skin break out, and I don’t like anything too heavy either. I’ve tried dozens and dozens of face lotions but I can never find the right one. I usually try to find a good one with SPF in it as well as it’s also important to shield your face from damaging rays even in the winter. Unfortunately, the product I am going to recommend does not have any SPF in it, but it works wonders on sensitive and/ or dry skin. I recently starting using Bobbi Brown’s hydrating face cream. It’s light but very hydrating and it feels great on your skin. This cream hydrates well enough on dry skin that your makeup won’t flake or show your dryness after using this cream.

I personally use these products and highly recommend them if you have sensitive or dry skin. But even if you just want clear, glowing skin, I would recommend these products as well- especially the Clarisonic Mia!

Neutrogena ultra gentle daily cleanser- about $8 at a drug store (depending)

Clarisonic Mia 2- $149 at varying stores: Nordstrom, Ulta, planet beauty, etc. and of course http://www.clarisonic.com

Bobbi Brown hydrating face cream- $52 at varying stores: Nordstrom, Sephora, Macy’s, etc. and of course http://www.bobbibrowncosmetics.com

Get glowing!

All About the Hair

If you are anything like me, when it comes to hair, you want it all. When I have a good hair day, I have a good day period! I like using hair products, but I also like to keep my hair healthy so I am pretty picky about what I use. Soooo, I am going to share a few of my favorite styling products with you!

First, Big Sexy Hair makes a ton on different products. I haven’t tried many of them but I do like the Spray & Stay All Nighter hair spray. Let me tell you, it will last you through an all nighter for sure! It holds extremely well. However, on the down side, it doesn’t smell the best and it can make your hair a tad stiff. But if you want it to seriously stay, give it a try! I like using this when I’m rocking the bun look especially. It keeps those little fly aways and wispies that stick out in place.

Next, I like Dove Style+Care extra hold hair spray. A friend reccomended this to me and I love it now! It smells wonderfullll, it is inexpensive and it really holds your hair in place! It isn’t stiff or sticky unless you use too much of course.

Since I value healthy hair, some times I like to splurge for the top brands. I love anything by Aveda, and not only for the amazing smell! Aveda’s volumizing tonic spray is an oil based product that you spray lightly on your roots when your hair is still a little damp and you haven’t yet finished styling. A little bit of this goes a long way. I like to stop over half way through my blow dry to spritz some on my roots, flip my head over and finish drying. I get a lot of natural looking volume by doing this. Very much reccomended!

Lastly, because my hair stylist uses Moroccan Oil, I have began to use their products myself. First, they also smell amazing! I don’t know what it is about smells and hair products but if I’m spraying anything that close to my head and face, I guess I just prefer it to smell nice. Not to mention, you’ll be getting whiffs of your hair throughtout that day and I firmly beleive scents can alter your mood. Two of my favorite Moroccan Oil products are the oil, and the Luminous Strong Flexible Hold hair spray. First, I use just about a nickle size of the oil on my damp hair and even on my dry hair after I have finished drying some days when I’m feeling a little dry. It doesn’t make your hair oily or slick but healthy, sleek and shiny. The hair spray is a lot less intense than the other two aforementioned hair sprays. What I like about this is that it’s very super flexible. It is in no way sticky or stiff. I love using this on straight or loose waves because it allows them to still have bounce.

Face Contouring How-To

One of the big “secrets” out right now in the beauty world is face contouring. Basically, knowing where to highlight and create shadows on certain spots of your face to accentuate your features and make your face look slimmer. (The way most celebs, most commonly Kim Kardashian, does) Believe me, the make up artists do it for a reason- it works! And its pretty easy to do too. Check out these simple guides and try it out for yourself.

Sock Bun Fun

Lately the sock bun trend has become beyond popular and it seems like every time I’m on Pinterest there’s a new “easy” tutorial for it. Well let me tell you. I’m a pretty crafty and creative person and usually greatttt with hair but this concept baffles me! For the longest time I could not understand how it works. So tonight, my lovely sister and I decided to give it a try. We looked up several tutorials and tried to make our own that was pretty step by step. So here it is, our sock bun fun adventure!

First, take a sock and cut the toe off so it is more like a tube. Then, roll it so it forms a doughnut like thing. Put your hair into your desired pony height and secure it. Put the hair of the pony thru the hole of the sock. Bring it down to your hair tie. Then slide it up the pony to the ends. Curl the end of your pony over the doughnut sock thingy and begin to roll the sock down. The hair should catch in the sock and roll with it. Warning- it will feel and look like a hot mess at first bit keep at it! You’ll have to do some maintenance with bobbi pins to secure it just right most likely or you’ll have to spread your hair around the doughnut to make sure no sock is showing. Pin and spray that beautiful bun with hairspray- a girl’s best friend! And there you have it. Sock bun!

Hope this is helpful!

Brighten Up

So it wasn’t one of those mornings today, but it was definitely early. Personally, I like that five extra minutes of sleep so the snooze button it is! However, I like when I also look fresh too. It’s a tricky compromise but luckily I have found some cheap beauty thrills that help me out especially when I am in a rush!

First, compliments to my best friend, I have come to love this Garnier eye roller! First, it has a cold metal ball applicator which feels amazing under the eyes (and even right under the brow). Second, it’s tinted so it helps to hide those “dark circles” or purple-y tint and give you a nice fresh glow. And of course it’s packed with caffeine and vitamins which help to decrease any puffiness.

Next, compliments to my sister, this Loreal Magic Lumi primer helps to brighten things up as well. I like to just dab a little on my upper cheek bones and along the bottom to outside corner of my eyes. It gives me a quick glow and a highlight making me look more refreshed. Other days, I’ll mix it with my daily face lotion to give me that extra glow when I don’t want to wear makeup. (Perfect with some pink lip balm and a touch of mascara!)
